Washing Extensions
Wash extensions 2 to 3 times per week — less frequently than you might wash natural hair. Use a sulfate-free, extension-safe shampoo applied to the scalp and let the suds run down the lengths. Avoid scrubbing or tangling the extension bonds.
Apply conditioner from the mid-lengths to the ends, avoiding the bonds or tapes. Conditioner near the attachment points can cause slippage. Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water — hot water can weaken adhesives and bonds.

Drying and Brushing
After washing, gently squeeze excess water from the hair — do not rub or twist. Use a microfiber towel or cotton t-shirt to reduce friction. Allow hair to air-dry partially before blow-drying if possible.
Use an extension-safe brush with looped or flexible bristles. Hold the hair at the root to support the bonds while brushing from the ends upward. Never brush extensions when soaking wet — wait until they are at least 70% dry to avoid pulling on the attachments.
Sleeping With Extensions
Never sleep with wet extensions. Water weakens the bonds and causes matting. Dry hair completely before bed. Braid hair loosely or tie it in a low ponytail with a silk scrunchie to prevent tangling during the night.
A silk or satin pillowcase reduces friction and helps prevent matting and frizz. This is especially important in Miami, where humidity can cause extensions to expand and tangle more easily.
Swimming and Sun Exposure
Chlorine and saltwater can damage extension hair and weaken attachments. Before swimming, wet hair with clean water and apply a leave-in conditioner or oil to create a barrier. After swimming, rinse immediately with fresh water.
UV exposure can fade extension hair, which does not receive natural oils from the scalp. Use a UV-protective spray when spending time in the sun. If you swim regularly, discuss this with your stylist — some methods are more water-resistant than others.
Exercise and Sweat
Sweat contains salt and moisture that can affect extension bonds. For workouts, pull hair into a loose, high ponytail or braid using a silk scrunchie. Avoid tight elastics near the bonds. After exercise, let hair cool and dry before taking it down.
If you exercise daily, you may need more frequent maintenance appointments. Discuss your exercise routine with your stylist so they can recommend the best extension method and maintenance schedule.
Product Use
Use only sulfate-free, extension-safe products. Avoid products containing alcohol, oil-based serums near the bonds, or heavy silicones that can cause buildup. Professional brands like Kérastase offer extension-friendly formulations.
Apply styling products to the mid-lengths and ends, avoiding the attachment points. Heat protectant is essential before any hot tool use. Keep hot tools away from the bonds or tapes — heat can melt adhesives and weaken keratin bonds.

Miami-Specific Considerations
Miami’s humidity can cause extension hair to expand and frizz, especially at the roots where the attachments are. An anti-humidity spray applied to the lengths can help. If you spend significant time outdoors, UV protection is even more important.
If you notice increased shedding, matting, or discomfort, schedule a maintenance appointment. Do not wait until the 8-week mark if something feels wrong. Early intervention prevents more significant issues.
When to Schedule Maintenance
Most extension methods need maintenance every 6 to 8 weeks. During maintenance, your stylist moves up the extensions, replaces tape, or adjusts the attachment. This is also the time to assess the condition of the extension hair and your natural hair.
You can schedule extension maintenance through our booking platform. If you are unsure whether your extensions need attention, call the salon to speak with your stylist.
