The Limits of Salon Foot Care
Our podology and pedicure services are cosmetic and wellness-oriented. They address calluses, nail appearance, skin hydration, and foot comfort using professional techniques. They do not diagnose, treat, or cure medical conditions. If you have a medical foot concern, salon services are not a substitute for medical care.
Understanding this distinction is important. Salon services can complement medical care and support foot comfort, but they should not be your first recourse for medical concerns. When in doubt, consult a licensed physician or podiatrist.
When to Consult a Medical Professional
Certain symptoms and conditions require medical attention rather than salon services. If you experience any of the following, consult a licensed podiatrist or physician rather than scheduling a salon service.
- —Persistent or severe foot pain
- —Signs of infection (redness, swelling, warmth, pus)
- —Nail discoloration that may indicate fungal infection
- —Thickened or deformed nails
- —Numbness, tingling, or loss of sensation
- —Wounds or ulcers that do not heal
- —Changes in skin color or temperature
- —Any condition that worsens or does not improve
Diabetes and Circulatory Conditions
If you have diabetes, peripheral artery disease, or any circulatory condition, special foot care considerations apply. These conditions can affect sensation, healing, and circulation in the feet, making even minor issues potentially serious. Consult your physician before any foot care service, including salon services.
If you are cleared for salon services, inform your technician of your condition. They may need to adjust techniques or avoid certain treatments. Regular medical foot care from a licensed podiatrist is often recommended for these conditions.
Fungal Infections
Fungal nail infections and athlete’s foot are common conditions that require medical diagnosis. Our fungal nail laser service ($60) is a cosmetic treatment that targets the appearance of fungal nails. It is not a medical treatment and does not replace medical care.
If you suspect a fungal infection, consult a licensed podiatrist or physician for diagnosis and treatment. Our cosmetic laser service can complement medical treatment but should not replace it. Do not rely on salon services alone for fungal concerns.
Ingrown Nails
Mild ingrown nails may be addressed with our ingrown nail treatment ($50), which provides professional care to relieve discomfort. However, if an ingrown nail is infected, severely painful, or recurrent, consult a licensed podiatrist. Infections require medical treatment, not salon care.
If you have recurring ingrown nails, a podiatrist can assess the underlying cause and recommend a long-term solution. Salon treatment provides temporary relief but does not address the root cause of recurrence.
Calluses and Cracks
Normal callus buildup from friction and pressure can be addressed with our callus removal service ($65). However, if calluses are painful, cracking, bleeding, or if you have a circulatory condition, consult a licensed physician. Deep cracks can become infected, especially in clients with diabetes or compromised circulation.
If a callus is not a normal friction response — for example, if it appears suddenly, grows rapidly, or is painful — seek medical assessment. Some skin conditions can mimic calluses and require medical diagnosis.
What Our Salon Services Can Do
Our podology and pedicure services can address cosmetic and comfort concerns: routine callus reduction, nail shaping and maintenance, skin hydration, and foot relaxation. These services support foot comfort and appearance for healthy feet.
When combined with medical care, salon services can complement your overall foot health routine. But they should not be your first line of response for medical concerns. Always consult a licensed physician or podiatrist for diagnosis and treatment of medical conditions.
| Concern | Salon Service | Medical Care |
|---|---|---|
| Routine callus | Callus removal ($65) | Not needed |
| Painful callus or crack | Not appropriate | Consult physician |
| Mild ingrown nail | Ingrown treatment ($50) | If infected, consult podiatrist |
| Suspected fungal infection | Cosmetic laser ($60) | Consult podiatrist for diagnosis |
| Diabetes/circulatory issues | With physician approval | Required |
| Persistent pain | Not appropriate | Consult physician |
